FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How are the tanks maintained?

The sensory deprivation tanks water are super clean. We monitor our solution very closely:  pH and alkalinity levels are checked daily, the solution is treated with food grade hydrogen peroxide maintained between 30 and 100 parts per million, and is triple filtered through a filtration system equipped with UV sterilizer between each float.

Can I float if I’m menstruating?

Of course. Just follow the same protocol you would for a swimming pool.

What if I’m claustrophobic?

First and foremost you are in complete control. The tanks don’t have locks and latches on them and they are well ventilated. That said, being in the tanks is more like floating in outer space than being shut in a box. Several people with extreme claustrophobia have reported having no problems with their time in the tank. And just remember, our tanks are 5-feet tall and 9-feet long, however you're only 10-inches off the ground, so you have easily close to four and a half-feet above you!

Do I need to bring anything?

If you have longer hair, you may want to bring a brush or comb, or even deodorant for after your float. Other than that, we provide everything you need (towels, robes, earplugs, body wash/shampoo, blow drier)

Do I have to stay in the whole time?

No! There aren’t any latches on the tank doors, and you can get out anytime. That said, the 90-minutes usually goes by way faster than you’d expect (on average, people say it feels like 30 – 45 minutes.)

Is it okay to float if I just recently had my hair colored?

It is recommended that you wait at least a week to float after coloring your hair. This is because the solution in the tank could potentially fade/discolor your hair.

Parking

There is a paid parking lot next to our shop, although there is usually street parking available on Front Street and side streets. However, there has recently been a lot of construction and this can sometimes making parking a bit more difficult. Give yourself a few extra minutes to be safe.

Is there a difference between the tanks?

Nope! Aside from their outside color, both of our deprivation tanks are the exact same.

Am I supposed to wear a bathing suit or float in the nude?

It is highly recommended that you float in the nude as you are doing the float therapy so that there is no fabric to interfere/stimulate your sense of touch. That said, it’s entirely up to you.  Do what makes you feel comfortable.

Can I float if I’m pregnant?

YES! Pregnant women love to float! There is even a special position you can float in that relieves all of the weight of the baby off of the mother’s body. If you are in your third trimester, or have any concerns, please consult with your physician before coming in.

Is there anything I should do to prepare?

Yes. You don’t want to have any caffeine for several hours before you float (it can make your system jittery). Also, don’t shave or wax since the salt water can irritate your skin. We suggest eating a light meal about an hour to 90 minutes ahead of time stops your stomach from sounding like an angry monster while you float. On the flip side, you don’t want to have a four course meal beforehand, either. Other than that, there’s no specific preparation needed.

Can more than one person float in a tank at a time?

Halcyon Floats has 2 escape pod tanks, each designed for one person at a time. We can, however, have up to two people floating simultaneously in the shop because we have two rooms with one tank in both rooms.

Is it possible to get dehydrated from soaking for so long?

No. You won’t even get a little bit pruny. It’s quite fascinating…An added bonus is you DO absorb a lot of magnesium from the epsom salt.
